PQQ (Pyrroloquinoline Quinone) is a powerful, naturally occurring redox cofactor and antioxidant that belongs to the class of quinone compounds. It is found in small amounts in plant foods such as natto, spinach, green tea, kiwi, and tofu, but at levels far too low to produce noticeable physiological effects — which is why supplementation is essential to unlock its full range of benefits.
PQQ has been described as a "longevity nutrient" and a "mitochondrial optimizer" because of its unique ability to both protect existing mitochondria and stimulate the growth of new mitochondria — a process called mitochondrial biogenesis. This sets PQQ apart from nearly all other mitochondrial supplements, which only support existing mitochondrial function.
Key Mechanisms of Action·         Mitochondrial Biogenesis (via PGC-1α pathway) — PQQ activates the PGC-1α signaling pathway, which is the master regulator of mitochondrial biogenesis. This leads to the creation of new, healthy mitochondria in cells throughout the body, particularly in the brain, heart, and muscles
·         REDOX Cycling & Antioxidant Protection — PQQ can perform over 20,000 redox cycles without degrading, making it one of the most stable and potent antioxidants discovered. It is 30–5,000 times more efficient at electron transfer than other quinones
·         NGF (Nerve Growth Factor) Stimulation — PQQ stimulates the production of Nerve Growth Factor, supporting neuronal survival, synaptic plasticity, and cognitive function
·         NAD+ Support — PQQ supports cellular energy metabolism by enhancing the NAD+/NADH ratio, which is critical for energy production and cellular repair
·         Reduction of Oxidative Stress — Protects mitochondria from oxidative damage by directly scavenging superoxide and other reactive oxygen species (ROS)
·         Cognitive Enhancement — Improves cerebral blood flow, protects neurons from neurotoxicity, and enhances synaptic transmission
Key Benefits·         Mitochondrial Biogenesis — Creates New Mitochondria — PQQ is one of the few known compounds that can stimulate the growth of new mitochondria in aging cells, effectively slowing cellular aging
·         Enhanced Cellular Energy (ATP) — More and healthier mitochondria means more ATP production — translating to better physical and mental energy throughout the day
·         Cognitive Function & Memory — Improves short-term memory, attention, information processing speed, and working memory. Particularly studied in middle-aged and older adults
·         Neuroprotection — Protects brain cells from oxidative damage and beta-amyloid toxicity; supports long-term brain health and may help reduce the risk of age-related cognitive decline
·         Cardiovascular Support — Reduces oxidative damage to cardiac mitochondria, supports healthy heart function, and may help reduce ischemia-reperfusion injury
·         Anti-Aging at the Cellular Level — By maintaining mitochondrial health and reducing oxidative stress at the cellular level, PQQ supports healthy aging and longevity
·         Sleep Quality Improvement — Some studies report improved sleep quality, reduced sleep latency, and deeper, more restorative sleep
·         Reduced Inflammation — Downregulates pro-inflammatory cytokines and reduces systemic inflammation through improved mitochondrial function
·         Improved Stress Resilience — Supports adrenal function and helps the body adapt to physical and mental stress
Who Is It For?·         Individuals experiencing low energy, brain fog, or fatigue — PQQ addresses mitochondrial dysfunction, a root cause of fatigue
·         Adults over 40 — Mitochondrial density and function decline with age; PQQ helps reverse this trend
·         Students and professionals seeking improved mental clarity, focus, and memory retention
·         Athletes and active individuals — Increased mitochondrial density supports endurance, recovery, and energy output
·         Anyone concerned with longevity and healthy aging — Mitochondrial health is one of the most important determinants of biological aging
·         Those with sleep disturbances — PQQ may help improve sleep quality and onset
·         People with high oxidative stress burden — smokers, shift workers, individuals with chronic inflammation or metabolic syndrome
·         Individuals taking CoQ10 or Shilajit — PQQ pairs synergistically with CoQ10 for superior mitochondrial support and ATP production
Instructions for UseRecommended Dosage
Timing
Course Duration
1 capsule (20 mg) per day
Take with a meal (preferably with fat-containing food for optimal absorption)
Can be taken long-term; cycle 8–12 weeks if desired
Usage Notes:
·         Take with a meal — PQQ is fat-soluble and absorption is enhanced when taken with dietary fats. Taking it with breakfast or lunch is recommended
·         Consider pairing with CoQ10 (100–200 mg/day) — CoQ10 and PQQ work synergistically: CoQ10 supports the electron transport chain in existing mitochondria, while PQQ stimulates the creation of new mitochondria. This combination has been shown to produce greater improvements in energy, cognition, and mitochondrial health than either alone
·         Morning or early afternoon administration is recommended — some users report increased mental energy, so taking it too close to bedtime may interfere with sleep in sensitive individuals
·         Consistency is key — Mitochondrial biogenesis is a gradual process. Benefits typically become noticeable after 2–4 weeks of consistent supplementation, with full effects at 8–12 weeks
Precautions·         Consult a healthcare professional before use if you are pregnant, nursing, or have a pre-existing medical condition
·         Limited research in long-term high-dose use — 20 mg/day is well within the studied safe range (studies have used up to 60 mg/day without adverse effects)
·         May interact with blood pressure medications — PQQ has been observed to lower blood pressure in some individuals. Those on antihypertensive medication should monitor blood pressure levels
·         Blood sugar monitoring — PQQ may influence glucose metabolism; individuals with diabetes should monitor blood glucose levels when starting supplementation
·         Possible mild side effects may include: transient headache (especially during the first few days — may be related to increased cerebral blood flow), mild fatigue (some users report tiredness initially as the body adapts), gastrointestinal discomfort in sensitive individuals
·         Not recommended for children due to insufficient safety data
·         Keep out of reach of children
